There is nothing that feels better, than a family being brought back together. Two young NHL stars got to experience this sensation, as they were traded to the teams that their siblings happened to play for.
The first move came just as the NHL draft was getting underway. The Pittsburgh Penguins sent center Jordan Staal to Carolina in exchange for center Brandon Sutter (of another famous hockey family), defensive prospect Brian Dumoulin and the 8th overall selection in the draft.
Yesterday, Jonathan Quick had an off night.
The Kings’ goaltender allowed a whopping two goals on 29 shots. Most teams would love it if their goaltender had a .931 save percentage. The Kings aren’t like most teams, and Quick isn’t like most goaltenders.
Quick lead the NHL in shutouts during the regular season, earning a nomination for the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top netminder. In this year’s playoffs, he has been just as good, if not better.
In the first half week of NHL playoff action we have seen seven overtimes and two double overtimes in the 17 games played. With all the action, the busiest man in the league is not someone who is lacing up the skates.
His name is Brendan Shanahan.
The former NHLer has a Stanley Cup ring, Olympic gold medal and World Championship gold in his jewelry case. He is also the all-time leader in Gordie Howe Hat-Tricks. He is familiar with the game. He also knows a thing or two about the rough stuff. Maybe that’s why he is more than qualified for his current occupation.
