Only a few short months ago, the Los Angeles Kings faced an uphill battle to even make the playoffs.  They couldn’t score (they finished second to last in goals-scored), and their hope was fading.  They traded for Jeff Carter to remedy the problem, but they were still running out of time.  They were the last team in, now they are the last team standing.

This new pitcher may be the teams’ most important. Frank McCourt will not be pitching on a mound, however. Instead the Dodgers’ owner will be making his pitch to league officials in a last ditch effort to keep his team. As I am sure many of you have heard, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig has seized control of the Dodgers. Selig has also appointed former Texas Rangers president Tom Schieffer to run the team. These moves are thought to be due to McCourts’ nasty divorce proceedings with his wife, Jamie.At the heart of the meeting will be McCourt attempting to persuade the league to accept a proposed television deal with Fox. Reports differ on the deal’s value, with the league placing the amount at $1.7 billion and McCourt claiming it is closer to $3 billion. This would include $375 million up front, which would help him reach a settlement with his estranged wife. McCourt also wants to know what Schieffer’s role will entail and if McCourt will have any role on the team that he owns.
