Only a few short months ago, the Los Angeles Kings faced an uphill battle to even make the playoffs.  They couldn’t score (they finished second to last in goals-scored), and their hope was fading.  They traded for Jeff Carter to remedy the problem, but they were still running out of time.  They were the last team in, now they are the last team standing.

For the first time in their history, LA is King of the NHL.

This series has all the makings of a classic.  A legendary goaltender looking for one last run at glory.  A youngster looking to dethrone the mighty Brodeur.  Dynamic and exciting superstars.  Excitement.  And of course controversy.

The people that now find themselves on the outside looking in are livid.  Late and illegal hits (according to Phoenix)are dogging the Coyotes.  Bad officiating and supposed dives have the Rangers feeling blue.  Alas, the time to gripe is over.  Once again it is time for some hockey.

Yesterday, Jonathan Quick had an off night.

The Kings’ goaltender allowed a whopping two goals on 29 shots.  Most teams would love it if their goaltender had a .931 save percentage.  The Kings aren’t like most teams, and Quick isn’t like most goaltenders.

Quick lead the NHL in shutouts during the regular season, earning a nomination for the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top netminder.  In this year’s playoffs, he has been just as good, if not better.
