Yesterday, the Stanley Cup playoffs finished up. Today is about new beginnings. Today is the start of the NBA finals. One of the teams is a familiar face. The Miami Heat reached the finals last year, only to fall to Dallas. Oklahoma City has never seen this stage. One team seeks redemption, to finally live up to the hype. The other seeks recognition, to let the basketball world know they have arrived.
David Beckham has a history of going out on top.
In 2003, during his final season with Manchester United, he captured the English Premier League title. He then abandoned the program he was developed by and began his professional career with after 10 years with the club and his home country of England for a big payday with Real Madrid in Spain.
He spent 4 seasons in Spain. Then he shocked the world by announcing that he was leaving Europe to play on the smaller fields and smaller stage of the MLS. But before he left, he lead Real Madrid to the 2006-2007 league title.
Sorry for the delay between posts. I was in Dallas and have since found my way to Philly. But I digress, the real story is that a champion has been crowned. Yes the Dallas Mavericks have their first title. Its time for Mark Cuban to pull out the cubans. Their previous championship loss to the Heat has been avenged and LeBron is still without a ring.
Does this mean we can conclude that James made a bad “decision?” Not yet, but there is evidence for both sides of that debate. LeBron is the most hyped up athlete in pro basketball. This makes expectations for him very high, This wasn’t helped by people (Scottie Pippen for example) claiming he is superior to Micheal Jordan. He has also brought some of this upon himself. Not only did he air an ill-advised television special to announce what team he was going to sign with, he has alienated his hometown and claimed he was going to win 6 titles.
