Brian Cashman has preached all season that he is happy with his team’s roster, and probably was going to be quiet on the trade front this year.
We all should know better.
The Yankees general manager has pulled off another blockbuster. He has acquired Japanese legend Ichiro Suzuki from the Seattle Mariners for minor-league pitchers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar. He has yet again made headlines, More importantly, he has shored up the outfield for the Evil Empire.
Sometimes it takes a monstrous act to create a monster.
That is exactly what has happened at Penn State.
The NCAA has levied it’s punishment against the college for it’s role in the scandal surrounding Jerry Sandusky. $60 million in fines, a four-year postseason ban, loss of 20 scholarships per year (for four seasons), the allowing of immediate transfers of current players and the vacation of all wins since 1998.
The crime was heinous, but is the punishment just?
The Rangers have a new sheriff in town.
The Blueshirts have just pulled of the biggest trade of the summer; landing Rick Nash from the Columbus Blue Jackets. The cost was high. But the return could be immense.
To land the former Columbus captain and all-time leading scorer, the Rangers traded Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Tim Erixon and a first-round draft pick to the Jackets. This price may seem steep, but it is actually a great deal for New York.
